PROBLEMY came about entirely by chance. One day, while walking the dog, my partner and I found a stack of beautifully illustrated magazines in a skip. We filled the car to the roof and took everything back to the studio. There, we agreed that both the illustrations and the title perfectly matched the character of our friend Kuba's writing. We picked up our scissors and began cutting, combining and fitting together elements from the magazines. The collages draw primarily on the outstanding illustrations of Mieczysław Wasilewski, a poster artist, graphic designer and illustrator who created covers for the magazine “Problemy” from 1969 to 1993. The monthly itself was published continuously between 1945 and 1993 and was one of the leading popular-science magazines in the Polish People's Republic. Half of the proceeds from the collages and booklets sold will be donated to an organisation working to combat depression and promote mental health.
