Description:
The “Problemy” project came about entirely by chance. One day, while walking our dog, we found a stack of beautifully illustrated magazines next to a rubbish bin. A few hours later, we had packed our car to the roof and brought everything back to our studio. There, we decided to create collages based on short texts written by our friend Kuba. We spent hours cutting out and arranging individual elements from the magazines.

The collages were based primarily on the outstanding illustrations of Mieczysław Wasilewski, a poster designer, graphic artist and illustrator who created covers for the “Problemy” magazine from 1969 to 1993. The magazine was published continuously from 1945 to 1993 and, during the Polish People’s Republic, was one of the leading popular science magazines. In our interpretation, we shifted the context of the problems and related them to mental health disorders.

Alongside a short booklet containing artwork and texts, we also created seven limited-edition, handmade screen prints. Each copy is for sale, and half of the proceeds will go to a foundation that helps people experiencing mental health problems.
