Description:

This is not a Ku Klux Klan outfit but a traditional Moroccan garment: a djellaba. It is worn by generations of Berber men, but of all the hooded figures I encountered, the one I remember most was a skateboarder at the Taghazout skatepark. The artwork was inspired by the rug-making style of the Taznakht/Ait Ouauzguite region.

Taznakht is a town in Ouarzazate Province in southern Morocco, on the route from Ouarzazate to Agadir. Rugs made in this region often feature earthy colours derived from natural dyes such as saffron and henna. Taznakht rugs record the histories and experiences of the women who weave them, and their surfaces feature distinctive geometric patterns rooted in Berber culture.

Produced by hand using screen printingand finished with gilded details, it draws the eye and has a distinctive character. Every print is unique, combining graphic precision with an artisanal finish. Gold accents emphasise the contrast between tradition and modernity, and between the desert and urban movement.
